Whole30 Challenge–Week 1 2

On Monday of this week, I started a Whole30 / paleo diet challenge. You can read all about the program on their website (Whole 9 Life) or check out the book, It Starts With Food.  Basically the challenge is to clean up your eating to a paleo-esque diet for 30 days.  For those that don’t know much about paleo, it’s a diet that is focused on meat, seafood, vegetables, fruit, and nuts/seeds. So, I’m now almost 5 days in and this diet is HARD.  I had no idea how much I relied on dairy and grains for my meals.  I’d kill for a piece of cheese, a glass of wine, or a piece of chocolate right about now. But I’m trying to keep on keepin’ on.  […]

Guest Post at My Pretty Pennies 1

Hey guys! I have a guest post up on one of my favorite blogs today – My Pretty Pennies – all about decorating your house on a budget.  I included my best tip for painting a room for just a fraction of the cost! I hope you’ll click over and check it out and get to know Ginna while you’re there!

Craig’s List Dresser Makeover … Complete! 18

Something major happened this weekend. I finally completed a project that I’ve been working on for 7, SEVEN, months. Behold, the finished product: I picked up this dresser just a couple of months after we moved into our house last year (read more about it here) and it’s been sitting in our garage, in various stages of being made over, since then. Here’s what it looked like before… Crazy, right?! I knew when I saw this dresser that the lines were perfect. Nice and clean with a little fancy curve on the legs. And 8 drawers! Oh, the storage possibilities! I actually had intended to paint it a shimmery gold color. I had chosen the color Froth in the Martha Stewart Precious Metals line. I […]

HomeGoods Finds 2

About a year ago I discovered the gloriousness that is HomeGoods.  Now it’s my happy place.  I love going there with a latte in hand and cruising up and down the aisles.  Many of the items in our house are from HomeGoods.  Even though I often leave empty-handed, I still love looking at all the home….well, goods. I thought it would be fun to start up a little recurring feature called HomeGoods Finds.  Basically, this is where I’ll show you my awesome HomeGoods scores.  They have the best clearance and their regular prices are usually pretty good, too.  What’s not to love?  Who knows, if you like seeing my HomeGoods finds, maybe eventually we can have a little link up. So, here’s my latest score.  […]

Some Office Updates! 8

We use our office daily, but we haven’t done much to it at all.  I’m not really sure what to do with it because I don’t think it’ll be our office forever. I keep saying it’ll be a playroom someday when we have kid, but that won’t be for several more years.  So I should probably at least put some effort into making it look like a nice office since it’s the first room you see in our house.  Here’s a floor plan of our house to help you understand the layout better – can’t believe I’ve never posted this!  (The office is listed as the “den” and the front door is right in front of the stairs.) The other day, we started organizing things […]

Getting Back In Shape 2

So as I mentioned in my New Year’s resolutions post, I’m getting back in shape for the new year!  I’ve been pretty active for many years, but really started to loose focus after buying our house.  We got into bad habits of eating out too much and drinking more wine and beer with dinner during the week. I’ve been feeling crappy and not like myself so I knew I needed to reel things in and get back on the wagon.  Here are some of the things I’ve been doing: Experimenting with new recipes Getting into a cooking rut usually leads to lots and lots of bad eating for me.  So, instead of just scrolling past all those recipes from health blogs in my Google Reader, […]

DIY and Decorating: I’m Just Figuring Things Out As I Go 11

The other day I was feverishly working on a project because I wanted to post about it the next day.  I really wanted to link up to a link party that was being hosted by some of my favorite bloggers (a “link party” is basically a post on a blog where other bloggers post a link to their blog for others to view). The further along I got into said project, the more I realized that it was taking a direction towards fail-ville.  It was not at all what I had envisioned and basically my 5 year-old niece could probably do a way better job than I was doing.  It was a canvas that I was trying to paint to hang in our living room.  […]

Gallery Wall Update 15

When I last updated you on our gallery wall, I was just finishing up spray painting about a bazillion frames.  But I’ve made a ton of progress since then.  Check it out! In my last gallery wall update, I mentioned I’d been scouting out frames for really cheap prices – preferably below $5.  I’ve found some killer deals, mostly at thrift stores.  I’ve even gotten some brand-new frames from thrift stores for $1 or $2! Gallery walls tend to look pricey with so many frames, but it has really been one of my least expensive projects to date.  Spray painting them is kind of a pain, but I love the all-white look.  And I’ve actually only used about a can and a half, so spray […]

Thrift Store Shopping Challenge 6

Last week, the blog Young House Love posted about a “(Completely Unofficial) Macklemore Thrift Shop Challenge”.  Basically, the challenge was to go to a thrift store and post your finds.  Sounds right up my alley! Oh, you don’t know about Macklemore and the amazing song called Thrift Shop?  You should go ahead and listen to it because I’m pretty sure you’re gonna like it.  Seriously, it’s so catchy and addicting. So, since I’ve recently become a little addicted to shopping at thrift stores, I figured I’d give a go.  I’m pretty new to hunting for treasures at thrift shops, so I often come away empty-handed, but when I do find something good, I totally get a high off of it (well, a high for a […]
